If you are ever in need of a campsite in Victoria please check out the Lakeside campsite at Lake Burrumbeet. It is about a 15 minute drive from Ballarat and it is stunning. We were incredibly lucky the weekend we went since it was September and tourists are normally starting to go crazy around this time of year but the lake was empty when we first arrived on the Friday night.
What drew us to this Lake was the fact is was a half way mark from Melbourne to our hometown Warrnambool since we had to make a stop on the way home to Warrnambool for some family photos. But also the fact the camping grounds were free and pet friendly, there was so many dogs around it was so nice to see them all get along with each other.

Since the campgrounds are free there is a lack of amenities but we dealt with it since we were only there for 2 nights. They do have toilets but you have to bring your own toilet paper as the holders are always empty but there is no showers which like I said didn't really effect us since we were staying there long.
Since this campsite is off the main road and out of the way of any street lights it made for a perfect time to take photos of the sky at night as we played boardgames as a group. A few of my friends came with us for this trip with their dogs as well because it was to celebrate my 21st birthday. I still can't believe I'm 21 haha.
The nights while we were camping were stunning, being near Ballarat it did get very cold over night but we seemed to manage that well between all of us and the animals. Sushi loved cuddles with the dogs since she was able to come on this trip, she was a bit nervous to begin with but after the first night she warmed up to the idea and began to wonder around the camp grounds on a long lead.Â
If you are into photography as much as I am I can not recommend you bring your camera enough if you have the space to bring one, or even your phone if you have good night settings on it. I took some beautiful photos of the stars the night we were at Lake Burrumbeet. We all spent ages just looking up honestly and I cant say I would want it any other way.Â
Overall, please if you are down near Ballarat area check out this camp ground, it will be a favourite of yours I'm sure. Especially since you are able to same some money while still getting the lake views we all love.Â
